French electronic music was the starting point. Living in the US brought dubstep. London brought jungle, drum and bass, a warehouse full of artists, and my own sound system. Spain added Latin rhythms and psytrance. I still hear those places in what I play.
As ONIZAL, I bring electronic music together with tribal rhythms, folk, and world bass. A set needs somewhere to go. I like giving it enough time for quieter moments as well as the kind of bass you feel before you think about it.
A room full of people
Ecstatic dance gives you room to move without choreography. I’m also interested in what happens between people on the floor. How to invite someone. How to respect a refusal. How to stay aware of yourself while moving with someone else.
My movement workshops explore that alongside solo practice. The ONIZAL site goes further into the format, including ritual, the solo experience, and the shared dance. You can participate at your own pace. Watching or resting can be part of it.
